Cabling for 10 Gigabit Ethernet

Augmented Category 6 (Category 6A) and the new Class E (Class EA) channel specifications are designed to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet on unshielded twisted pair cabling (using the IEEE 802.3an 10GBASE-T standard) over a 100 m channel.

While unshielded Category 6 cabling may only provide this support up to 55 m, it should be noted that shielded Category 6 can support a 100 m channel. (Alien crosstalk is a major factor in the operation of 10GBASE-T and shielded cabling systems offer an effective solution to this particular problem.)
